From Fundamentals to Advanced Analytics – Learn to Think in DAX
I wrote Mastering DAX in Power BI for professionals who are ready to go beyond the basics and truly master the analytical power of DAX. Over the years, I’ve used DAX to solve a wide range of complex business challenges in Power BI — from forecasting sales and calculating customer lifetime value to applying the Pareto principle for identifying high-impact products and customers. These are practical use cases that are rarely covered in traditional learning resources, and certainly not explained in the way I believe they should be — clearly, practically, and with real-world context.
That’s what motivated me to write this book.
I wanted to create something different, a hands-on, experience-driven guide that doesn’t just teach syntax, but teaches you how to think in DAX. My goal was to take the knowledge I’ve gained working on actual business problems and make it accessible to anyone who’s looking to elevate their Power BI skills. This book is built around scenarios that mirror the kinds of decisions business professionals make every day.
What sets this book apart is its focus on application. Each chapter introduces a new concept through realistic examples using the Adventure Works DW dataset, from time intelligence and dynamic filtering to building optimised, scalable data models. I’ve also included many of the techniques I personally use when developing analytics solutions for clients.
To support your learning journey, I’ve made all the Power BI Desktop (.pbix) files with examples from the book available for download. The download link is provided inside the book, hosted on OneDrive, so you can follow along step by step and experiment with the same models and data I used.
If you're a Power BI user looking to develop a deeper understanding of DAX, not just how it works, but how to use it effectively in business, I believe this book will be a valuable resource for you.
From aspiring analysts to seasoned professionals.
